More Accurate Decompression for Tension Pneumothorax

WHAT IS TENSION PNEUMOTHORAX?
A pneumothorax is a collapsed lung that occurs when air leaks into the space between lung and the chest wall (the pleural space). A Tension Pneumothorax is air under pressure -- air cannot leave the pleural space. This air can build-up pressure which compresses blood vessels that carry blood back to the heart, causing cardiac arrest within minutes. Tension Pneumothorax has a 100% fatality rate if not treated immediately and is a leading cause of preventable trauma mortalities die from tension pneumothorax.
